Blue Blood

Stevan Riley

Visit the universities of Oxford and Cambridge and you will be shown dreaming spires, tranquil meadows and academics in tweed. Do not be fooled. Tear up the postcard and ready yourself for a vision scarcely imaginable. For deep within their murky corridors lurks a dark secret. One night a year the age-old foes lock their doors for a bloody fist-fight. In an ancient hall, packed to the rafters with 2 000 hate-filled students, the bell rings for Round 1 of the Oxford v. Cambridge Varsity Boxing Match. ‘Blue Blood’ follows 5 Oxford scholars desperate to step through the ropes and defend university pride. A fine artist, astrophysicist, philosopher, mathematician and biochemist all quickly realize that a sharpened pencil and straight A’s are of little use when the gloves are on and violence reigns.
