This is Nick Broomfield's quest for the real Sarah Palin. It involves battling the icy snows of Alaska in mid winter, the school friends, family, and Republican colleagues that in previous days gave their heart, soul and belief, to the charismatic, charming, intoxicating ex hockey mum. But it's not all plain sailing. People are frightened to talk, Wasilla makes Twin Peaks look like a walk in the park. It's a devout evangelical community: 76 churches with a population of 6 thousand, and the Crystal meth capitol of Alaska. An Alaskan pastor characterizes her faith as 'apocalyptic Christian' and elaborates, 'She has no hesitancy to use violence against evil...Until you understand that, I don’t think you understand Sarah Palin.'
Nick Broomfield was born in London. He has directed more than thirty documentaries over his forty-year career, including Kurt and Courtney (1998); Biggie & Tupac (2002), Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003); Battle for Haditha (2007), Sarah Palin: You Betcha! (2011), Sex: My British Job (2013), Whitney Can I Be Me (2017) all of them screened at the ZagrebDox. His latest documentary Marianne & Leonard – Words of Love (2019).
