This incendiary new documentary by Harold Crooks explores the origins, damaging repercussions, and complex moral issues arising from corporate tax-dodging — specifically, the widespread use of tax havens by multinational corporations and the super-rich, which allows them to deprive governments of billions in corporate-tax revenue every year. Tracing the increase in off-shoring of corporate assets to the City of London in the sixties and its dramatic rise under the Thatcher and Reagan administrations, The Price We Pay follows the thread through to the present, where tax avoidance has directly contributed to the dominance of the "one percent." A vital exposé of the flagrant ethical bankruptcy endemic to modern capitalism, The Price We Pay is a forceful and compelling call to action.
Harold Crooks attended McGill University, the Delhi School of Economics, and The London Film School. He has co-written for several documentary features, including The Corporation (2003), which won the Audience Award at Sundance. His directorial debut, Surviving Progress (2011) was screened at 2011 ZagrebDox. The Price We Pay (2014) is his second documentary feature.
