Aside from the odd lost bag or missed connection, the day-to-day operations of an airport go mostly unnoticed by travellers. Step behind the Authorized Personnel Only doors of Milan’s Malpensa Airport, however, and a very diff erent world comes into view. Post-9/11 air travel has clearly tightened controls, subjecting people, documents and cargo to far more rigorous screening. Filmmakers Martina Parenti’s and Massimo D’Anolfi ’s keenly observant cameras capture the drama of these increased measures at work, along with the crushing bureaucracy, paperwork and sheer boredom they create.
Massimo D’Anolfi was born in Pescara. He has been working as a video-maker since 1993. He wrote the screenplay of ‘Angela’, a film by Roberta Torre that premiered in 2002. In 2003, he realized five radio documentaries for Radio RAI3. Together with Martina Parenti, he made ‘The Betrothed’ (2006) and ‘Great Expectations’ (2009). ‘The Castle’ (2011) is their latest project.
Martina Parenti makes documentaries for cinema and television. Among her films the most well known are ‘Animol’ (2003) and ‘The Summer of a Drinking Fountain’ (2006).
