Ninth Edition of ZagrebDox Presented!

29.01.2013.

Slowly but steadily, ZagrebDox and its 20 programmes, an even better ZagrebDox Pro intended for professionals, competition for documentaries filmed with cell phones, as well as ideas for new films, are becoming the central place of documentary practice in this part of Europe.

Today at Kaptol Centre we announced and presented this year's edition of ZagrebDox! The programme and all the information and novelties were presented by ZagrebDox director Nenad Puhovski and producer Lucija Parać. On behalf of the general sponsor, Croatian Telecom, the visitors were addressed by Ivana Frankol, the private users communication unit manager.

For the ninth year in a row, the last days of February in Zagreb’s cinemas are booked for dozens of documentary tales from all four corners of the world. This year’s edition of ZagrebDox, the largest international documentary film festival in the region, takes place 24 February – 3 March in Cineplexx Kaptol Centre theatre. In these eight days the festival programme will present over 180 recent and award-winning documentaries from more than 30 countries.

The films from the official selection of ZagrebDox, its International and Regional Competition, run for Big Stamps, the main festival awards. A Little Stamp is awarded to a filmmaker up to 35 years of age, and Movies That Matter award is given to a film which best promotes human rights. For the sixth time the HT Audience Award is given by the general sponsor Croatian Telecom. The My Generation Award, launched last year and given at the discretion of the festival founder and director Nenad Puhovski, goes to the hands of the best filmmaker of his age.

ZagrebDox also features a series of other official selections: Musical Globe, Happy Dox, Controversial Dox, State of Affairs, Masters of Dox, Teen Dox, ADU Dox, Factumentaries, Jury Dox and for the first time this year Biography Dox! The additional programme includes a series of retrospectives: documentaries selected by the Scottish Documentary Institute, Imaginary Academy Documentaries and a Retrospective of Beaconsfield National Film and Television School. This year’s creative retrospective presents the internationally acclaimed Russian documentarian Victor Kossakovsky, whose films have so far won more than one hundred national and international merits. The filmmakers’ night is dedicated to local author Vlatka Vorkapić. ZagrebDox Pro, an educational programme for film professionals, this year features a broad array of workshops, a larger number of speakers, a new workshop and an additional programme entitled Phone Dox.

Of 1800 watched films, less than ten per cent of them found their place in ZagrebDox’s programme. This points to the fact that our festival is becoming more and more recognised by important regional and global filmmakers, producers and distributors. Slowly but steadily, ZagrebDox and its 20 programmes, an even better ZagrebDox Pro intended for professionals, competition for documentaries filmed with cell phones, as well as ideas for new films, are becoming the central place of documentary practice in this part of Europe. For three years now it has received significant support from European Union’s MEDIA Programme intended for the development of European audiovisual industry. This year, ZagrebDox Pro also received support in the category of continuous improvement. ZagrebDox and Europe truly love each other! said ZagrebDox director Nenad Puhovski.

The ticket price remains 20 kuna for day screenings and 25 kuna for evening screenings. For Teen Dox, a selection intended for teenagers, amounts to 15 kuna. Traditionally, the theatre 2 has free screenings of films from the International and Regional Competition without Croatian subtitles. After the festival is closed and festival awards are presented, on Sunday, 3 March, with the ticket price of 35 kuna, the visitors can see our The Best of Fest programme, this year’s ZagrebDox finest achievements, said ZagrebDox producer Lucija Parać. Our special thanks goes to Croatian Telecom for having recognised the importance of film and film festivals and being the general sponsor of ZagrebDox for the seventh time around.
