Jackie is a former Miss Florida 1993 and the current wife of a billionaire David Siegel, the self-styled king of a vast timeshare empire. Jackie loves her husband, her eight children, and shopping. A leggy blond teetering on high heels, she is thrilled to show her work in progress: the largest single-family home in America, 90,000-square-foot mansion. Modelled on the palace of Versailles but arguably more lavish, it features 30 bathrooms and a skating rink. Then in 2008 the financial crisis hits. Over the next two years, their sprawling empire, fuelled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis. Major changes in lifestyle and character ensue within the cross-cultural household of family members and domestic staff. We witness the impact of this turn of fortune in a riveting film fraught with delusion, denial, and self-effacing humour.
Lauren Greenfield is an American artist, documentary photographer and filmmaker. She graduated from Harvard in 1987 and started her career as an intern for National Geographic. Her first feature-length documentary Thin (2006) was nominated for an Emmy, in 2008 she directed Kids + Money, which won multiple festival awards and screened at 2009 ZagrebDox, and in 2011 the film Beauty CULTure. Her photographic works and films generally deal with issues relating to the influence of popular culture on the way we live.
