A documentary about the inner life of an autistic boy and the incredible role played by Disney's animated films in his socialisation, Life, Animated, is among the five nominees up for an Oscar in the documentary film category.

When Owen Suskind was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, his parents had to learn overnight how to communicate with a boy who fully shut off from the world. Soon they discover that the Little Mermaid, Lion King and many other popular Disney characters can be of help: Owen uses their dialogues to interpret complex social codes and the world around him.

Roger Ross Williams is an American director and producer (Music by Prudence, God Loves Uganda) and the first ever Oscar-winning African American director. Life, Animated earned Ross Williams the best director award at Sundance and the film, among other honours, won audience choice awards at international film festivals in Telluride and San Francisco.
