Musical Globe Front Runners – Films about Zappa, Cave and Bowie

26.01.2017.

Every year Musical Globe features a host of documentary tales about music: in 2017 we take a sneak peek into the lives of Frank Zappa, Nick Cave and David Bowie.

This year, the audience will get a chance to take a sneak peek into the lives, public activity and work of great and famous artists: meet the provocative personality of the composer and musician Frank Zappa, discover the new album Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds made as the famous musician was going through the greatest personal drama in his life, learn about the conditions and circumstances one of David Bowie's biggest hits ever was made in, or try to expand the horizons and move the boundaries of the usual notions of classical music.

Eat That Question – Frank Zappa in His Own Words by the renowned German documentary filmmaker Thorsten Schütte is an intimate encounter with the great musician through unseen archive materials that unveil the provocative personality of the 20th century musical genius, whose engaged and different view of the world resonates even today.

Conceptualised as a video of the making of the newest, 16th album by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, One More Time With Feeling, by the Australian director Andrew Dominik, evolved through the creative process into something much more impressive and personal. In the film, the author unveils the making-of process of the Skeleton Tree album immediately after Nick Cave's greatest tragedy, the loss of his son. All the visitors of ZagrebDox will get and exclusive chance to enjoy a 3D screening of the film.

Rubika Shah's short documentary is a must see for all David Bowie fans. Let's Dance: Bowie Down Under is a story about the making of a video for one of the greatest hits of this iconic musician. In 1983, Bowie made a video for this hit song in Australia, with a clear vision and a strong political context: he wanted to portray the Aborigine population affirmatively and point to their unjust treatment in Australia.

Beside mentioned titles, Musical Globe brings Tomer Heymann's Mr. Gaga, dedicated to one of the most significant contemporary choreographers, the Israeli Ohad Naharin, Solenzara! by Stephan and Pascal Regoli about popular Corsican song Solenzara across cultures and artists all around the globe and Jonathan Keijser's What Would Beethoven Do? which examines the notions of classical music.
