Coles-Janess’s documentary depicts the everyday life in Iraq during and after the twelve years of Saddam’s regime and the sanctions that followed it. The scenes of war destruction and the Baghdad panoramas were frequently in the world media. While staying in the city, Coles-Janess managed to record the other side of the medal: lives of different people in everyday situations, from professors of Arabic poetry, imams and shoesellers, to an Olympic wrestling coach in Baghdad. They were all living their lives despite the war and permanent arrests by the Iraqi authorities.
