Happy Dox presents Naked Nation, a new documentary by Filip Remunda, inspired by Boris Dežulović’s text

A new documentary by the award-winning Czech documentary filmmaker Filip Remunda focuses on the stereotypes Croatian people have about Czech visitors and ironizes the standard image of a Czech tourist in the eyes of Croats.

Naked Nation examines the relationship between Czech tourists and Croats and unmasks the stereotypes the Croats have about Czech visitors, and vice versa. It ironizes the standard view of the Czech and focuses on different Croatian clichés that have fixed the image of a typical Czech tourist: from the obligatory sunburn and classic styling (bermudas, rubber slides and white socks) to the usual stock of pate and the ammunition consisting of inflatable mattresses, portables ice boxes and other paraphernalia.

Besides, it similarly ironizes the world of Czech camps and summer entertainment programmes for Czech visitors. The film also covers the stereotypes the Czech have of the Croats as hosts, and it is inspired by Boris Dežulović’s text published in Jutarnji list about the frequent car accidents caused by Czech tourists, The Unlucky Good Tourist Švejk.

Fillip Remunda (1973) is a Czech director, cinematographer and producer.
