Homo Homini Dox: Retrospective of Croatian Anthropological Documentaries

The Cormorant Scarecrow

Screening time

Critics have named this film one of the best Croatian documentary films of the 1990’s.

The film tells a dark-humoured real life story about one of the most peculiar occupations in the world, showing workers at a fish farm around Donji Miholjac who are in charge of frightening off the cormorants threatening to deplete the fish reserves. The fact that the cormorants are not only protected by law but that their habitat lies in neighbouring Hungry makes the workers’ daily chores seem almost absurd and Sisyphean in nature. Critics have named the film one of the best Croatian documentary films of the 1990’s.
