What is going on in the backstage of dance music festivals, Armenian jazz pianist, rock stars or a ballet performance, how musicians become legends and what are the roots of tango, all this will be revealed in the 11thZagrebDox Musical Globe.

What happened to the legendary Bijelo dugme drummer Goran Ipe Ivandić? Did Ipe really throw himself off the eighth floor of the Metropol Hotel or was he murdered, as speculated, is investigated in the documentary The Lost Button by Renato Tonković, Mario Vukadin and Robert Bubalo. Rock stars are also in the focus of the latest documentary by the New Zealand-based director Florian Habicht. In his film Pulp: A Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets Habicht demystified the Sheffield stars and at the same time gave an overview of life in this British city. In the documentary Under the Electric Sky, directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz brought the largest dance festival in the world Electric Daisy Festival on the big screen, and their interviewees include DJ Tiësto, Avicii and Armin van Buren.

Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki claims that tango was born in Finland Does that make any sense? Midsummer Night’s Tango by Viviane Blumenschein reveals how small the world can be when the origins of music are concerned. In the film Tigran by Adrien Rivollier we meet the outstanding Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan, and otherwise we go backstage of one of the most performed ballet shows in the world, The Nutcracker, in the film Getting to the Nutcracker by Serena Meshel-Dillman. The section also includes Piano Piano on the Road by Marco Carlucci, following the unusual tour of pianist and composer Alessandra Celletti.

The magic does not end here: lovers of music on film have a chance to see a retrospective of Croatian Musical Documentaries with 16 films that feature stories about Maksim Mrvica, Bambi Molesters, Alen Vitasović and Punčke. Music surprises are also hidden in the Biography Dox section, in the film acquainting us with the singer and global lover Rustam Casanova, and in Masters of Dox, in the documentary film Visitors, Godfrey Reggio’s new collaboration with one of the most influential contemporary composers, Philip Glass.
