What to do at ZagrebDox this Monday?

22.02.2015.

First day of ZagrebDox brings opening of the competition programmes and lots of interesting documentary titles.

International competition opens on Monday with a poetic documentary about people from the very north of Russia and the so-called Russian soul in which fatalism and dark humour coexist side by side, Sounds of the Soul directed by Robin Dimet. Regional competition opens with the French-Italian film The Stone River, directed by Giovanni Donfrancesco, about European stonemasons who crossed the ocean in the early 20th century and opened the largest granite quarries in the world in the town of Barre, Vermont. The programme also includes The Forecaster by Marcus Vetter and Karin Steinberger (Biography Dox), a documentary about Martin Armstrong, the man who  developed a particularly accurate computer programme for predicting the trends in world economy, which American bankers and FBI did not like. The screening will be accompanied by a Q&A session with director Marcus Vetter.

The Musical Globe section opens with a 3D spectacle Under the Electric Sky by Emmy-winning directors Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz about the largest world dance music festival, Electric Daisy Carnival. The first day features screenings from the new programmes, Middleast and Thriller Dox. The latter presents Emergency Call by Pekka Lehto, a film based on a true story of an unsolved murder which remains one of the most bizarre cases in recent history of Finland. Pekka Lehto, together with scriptwriter Mika Purola, will be present at the Q&A session. Monday is also the first day of Dox events, i.e. premieres of Croatian and regional films.
