L, a university student in India, writes letters to her estranged lover. Through these letters, we get a glimpse into the drastic changes taking place around her. Merging reality with fiction, dreams, memories, fantasies and anxieties, an amorphous narrative unfolds. Director Kapadia made a poetic blend of documentary, fiction and experimental film that tackles broader social and cultural issues in today's India. Political climate, right-wing tendencies, patriarchal bonds tangled with personal relationships and traumas, A Night of Knowing Nothing is a memorable poetic, sensual piece of film art.
