Camillo died in 1968. Almost fifty years later, Marco brings his whole family together for lunch. With his family, he reflects on Camillo, his twin brother who died at the age of 29. The brothers. The grandchildren. The sister of the girlfriend at that time. A psychiatrist. A priest. Talking to each of them, evoking those years and those events, Marco reconstructs the pieces of the past, finally giving form to a ghost he has been dealing with all his life. Through his family, Marco Bellocchio brings his brother’s story back to life, without filters or modesty, almost like an investigation, reconstructing a historical era and weaving the red line of so many of his films.
Marco Bellocchio is one of the most prolific and successful Italian directors and screenwriters, whose films have garnered awards at the most prestigious international festivals. He studied cinema at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and Slade School of Fine Art in London. Bellocchio’s films are normally considered radical, focusing on burning social and political issues. Some of the most famous films from his half-a-century-long career are: I pugni in tasca (1965), La Cina è vicina (1967), Sbatti il mostro in prima pagina (1972), Gli occhi, la bocca (1982), Buongiorno, notte (2003), Bella addormentata (2012), Sangue del mio sangue (2015) and Fai bei sogni (2016).
