Narrated mostly over photos from the family album, deeply personal and masterfully edited, I Am Trying to Remember focuses on the aftermath of the Iranian Islamic Revolution. When she was a child, director Pegah Ahangarani was very fond of family friend Gholam and she looked up to him. He was "even kinder than her grandmother" and he was the one who suggested her parents to name her Pegah, which means the break of dawn. When she was seven, Gholam told her about the Revolution which he took part in and filmed. Ten years after the Revolution, he stopped coming by and her family didn't talk about him anymore. In his only remaining photo, his face was scratched.
