Thursday at ZagrebDox

The fourth festival day at ZagrebDox includes screenings of over 40 documentary titles from the region and all over the world, including two ADU Dox premieres: Where To? by Lidija Špegar and Franko Elek – Pictures from the Life of One Immigrant by Silvio Mirošničenko. The central ZagrebDox PRO event is also scheduled for Thursday – the Pitching Forum – between 10am and 4pm at Kaptol Boutique Cinema.

At 6pm, theatre 5 is screening two titles from this year's new Mothers and Daughters programme: Heritage by Sanja Šamanović is a film in which the author documents living again with her mother after a family tragedy. After the screening, the director will take part in a Q&A session. Amazona by Clare Weiskopf follows, in which the author faces her own mother who abandoned her as a child and ran away to a Colombian rainforest to find her own identity.

The same slot at theatre 3 screens the Controversial Dox entry Down There by Djordje Čenić and Hermann Peseckas – an autobiographic trip through the past, with authors exploring the mechanisms of indoctrination of Yugoslav guest workers in Austria. A Q&A with the directors will follow.

One of the International Competition titles presented by the author is A Way Out by Qiong Zheng, who filmed three Chinese teenagers from different social strata, regional and mind sets during six years, to get an answer to the question of what kind of future is there for them. The film is scheduled for 7pm at theatre 2, followed by a Q&A with the director.

The Masters of Dox section on Thursday at 8pm, theatre 3, features the film Déjà vu, the latest piece by the Danish master documentarian Jon Bang Carlsen, who remains faithful to his hybrid style, connecting documentary and live action parts – this film is his life journey through which he is trying to find an answer to the event haunting him since childhood – the mirror of his life in images, accompanied by excerpts from over 40 films of different genres he has made. After the screening, Jon Bang Carlsen will introduce himself to the ZagrebDox audience at a Q&A session.

Two Dox events take place at 9pm: the world premieres of two ADU Dox entries – Where To? by Lidija Špegar portrays a young taxi driver from Zagreb, and Franko Elek – Pictures from the Life of One Immigrant by Silvio Mirošničenko focuses on an elderly Croatian political immigrant desiring to come back to his fatherland. After the screenings, the authors will present their works at Q&As.

ZagrebDox PRO today organises a Pitching Forum from 10am to 4pm, with 12 selected projects at different stages of development and production from 12 countries being presented. After the end of a four-day preparatory workshop, the participants will present their projects to an international panel of TV editors, film fund and festival representatives, distributers and producers.

On Thursday, ZagrebDox welcomes the Polish filmmaker Pawel Lozinski, the director of You Have No Idea How Much I Love You, Chinese director Qiong Zheng, the author of the already mentioned film A Way Out (both screened in International Competition), authors Djordje Čenić and Hermann Peseckas, the directors of Down There, and Lidija Zelović, the author of My Own Private War (Controversial Dox).
